the deadline for nomination was February 1st. He has done nothing concrete to this point to warrant receiving the award, and certainly didn't deserve it during that two week window.

I think its great that he received such a prestigious award; however in contrast to the nay sayers I do agree that it takes a major event to receive such an award, but given the current circumstances of the world and economy I think what he has done and is doing deserved to be recognized!

What does this have to do with Jon and Kate??

I dont think Obama has done anything to warrant receiving the prize. For starters the nominations were due by February 1st, he had barely been in office at that point. Additionally, he received a large amount of money with that award which he gave to charity, which is admirable, but why didnt he apply that to our country's deficit?

To ALittleConcerned: you asked why Obama didn't apply his prize money to the deficit: Good question, although I think it was his money to use as he saw fit, and you yourself said it was "admirable" that he gave it to charity. So which was it? Was it admirable, or not?
A better question: did YOU stand up and protest when the previous Occupant of the White House was running up the deficit to record levels with his wars based on falsehoods and manipulated intelligence, and with a Congress that was majority Republican for the first six years of his Presidency? I didn't think so! So pardon me if your Johnny-come-lately concern about the deficit doesn't ring true.
Some people are obviously just Obama haters who have to try to spin everything positive into a negative.
