Someone tell the Baja Men that the question, “Who let the dogs out?” has finally been answered.
Darryl Morris let the dogs out.
Morris, the Director of Student Housing, is working with the Montgomery Sheriff's Department in employing drug dogs to eliminate drug use on campus.
According to Morris, this is the first time in over five years drug dogs have been used by AUM student housing. Since last summer, they have appeared on campus twice and are expected to conduct more checks in the future.
“People see [the dogs], and they know that we’re serious,” Morris says.
These checks come at no expense to AUM. In exchange for their drug-sniffing talents, the dogs receive training in real-life exercises. If drugs are found in any of the dormitories, the campus police are notified to perform the actual arrest.
Even though campus police had no comment on the issue, Morris claims that the checks have resulted in one person being expelled from campus.
“We’re going to continue doing this for the safety of the students,” Morris says.
